At Sidegate, we aim to give our pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead healthy, happy lives as responsible members of our community. In order to do this, we teach weekly PSHE lessons using a programme called Jigsaw. These lessons cover a range of topics such as health and wellbeing, setting goals, dealing with change, managing our emotions, and understanding healthy relationships. Mindfulness and emotional awareness are fundamental aspects of the Jigsaw programme and lessons always include a ‘Calm Me’ time which teaches the children strategies to recognise and manage their emotions. These lessons are also discussion based, allowing classes to debate and explore issues with sensitivity as they arise.
We are currently reviewing our PHSE and RSHE policy and will share this with families once finalised.
