Uniform
At Sidegate, we like pupils to take pride in their appearance and presentation. They should feel comfortable in what they wear so that they can achieve to the best of their abilities. Our uniform policy is available below:
Please support the school by ensuring your child has the correct school uniform (including colour) and that it is clearly labelled:
- Black/grey trousers or skirt.
- Sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan
- White shirt/polo shirt.
- Flat black shoes (no high heels)
Sweat Shirts, Cardigans, Fleeces, PE Shorts, etc are available to purchase online from C&D Schoolwear or My Clothing. Uniform can also be purchased from large supermarkets or town centre shops.
Note: Uniform may be purchased from any supplier and does not have to have the school logo. Please ensure, however, that you have the correct school sweatshirt colour for your child's year group:
Year R - EYFS - red
Years 1-5 - jade green
Year 6 - black
Please contact the school office if you require secondhand uniform, as we do have a small supply. We also have a Facebook Selling Page on which families often sell or give away uniform.
PE Kit
PE Kit can be worn on days when children have PE/Sports Clubs:
- Black shorts
- white T-shirt/polo shirt
- black/white trainers
- During colder months pupils canweare their school sweatshirt or a black fleece. P.E will continue outside during the winter months so please ensure your child has adequate clothing.
Children may wear trainers to school every day, rather than school shoes. Alternatively, they can wear school shoes and keep a pair of trainers in school all of the time, so that they have suitable footwear for daily physical activity.
Jewellery
On health and safety grounds, we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school except plain stud earrings which must be removed for PE. If a child wishes to have his/her ear(s) pierced, we ask that this be carried out at the beginning of the summer holiday, so that the healing process is complete by the time school starts again in September and the ear-stud can be removed. Inexpensive, non-smart watches may be worn in Key Stage 2. Any items worn for religious items are permitted and teachers will communicate on an individual basis to ensure we support this safely.
Hair
All pupils may choose to grow their hair long or keep it short. However, all pupils with hair that is long or hair that is possible to tie up, should wear their hair tied up. This is for health and safety reasons to stop hair becoming entangled in school equipment, accidently becoming tugged or pulled during break times and to ensure that pupils can see their work clearly.
