Reading for Christmas

As a school, we endeavour to champion the importance of reading and help to give your children the skills to be life long readers.

Reading for just 6 minutes a day has been found to lower stress levels by 68% (University of Sussex Study 2009). The National Literacy Trust recently conducted a survey and found that in 2024, the percentage of children and young people who enjoyed reading was its lowest since they started asking about this in 2005. They also found that children and young people (ages 8-14) who read daily had higher average (mean) standardised reading scores than children and young people who didn’t read daily.

As Christmas fast approaches, you may wish to include some books as gifts for your children. I have collected a list of recommended books suitable for different year groups.  Below are links to a selection of fiction and non-fiction books which I hope will have something for everyone to enjoy.
