Sidegate Primary School has a Governing Body whose legal responsibility it is to make sure that the school has an effective safeguarding policy and procedures in place and to monitor that the school complies with them. The Governing Body should also ensure that the policy is made available to parents and carers if requested (this is under the policies page on our website). It is also the responsibility of the Governing Body to ensure that all staff and volunteers are properly vetted to make sure they are safe to work with the pupils who attend our school and that the school has procedures for handling allegations of abuse made against members of staff (including the Head Teacher and volunteer helpers). The Governing Body will ensure that there is a Named Governor and a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who has lead responsibility for dealing with all safeguarding issues in our school.

The school's Designated Safeguarding Lead and PREVENT Lead is Mrs Sam Hicks (pictured left). Further information on PREVENT can be found under our policies section.

Mrs Sam Hicks is also the school lead for Suffolk Young Carers.

The school's Safeguarding Governor is Mrs Karen Wesley.

Alternate Designated Safeguarding Leads are: Mrs Wendy James, Mr Matthew Ferrier, Mrs Teri Tanner and Mrs Madeline Johnson.  The school's e-safety Leads is Mrs Sam Hicks.

Keeping Children Safe in Education (part one) dated September 2018, sets out the legal duties we must follow to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in our schools.

If you have a concern regarding the well-being of a child, please contact Mrs Hicks to report it. Alternatively, you may contact Suffolk County Council's Social Services Team "Customer First" on 0808 800 4005.
